Col. Cranmer-Byng is grandson of Vice-Admiral Hon. Henry Dilkes Byng, 4th son of John, 5th Viscount Torrington, and, assumed, by royal licence, dated 1 Feb. 1882, the prefix surname of Cranmer, and the arms of Cranmer quartered with the arms of Byng, in compliance with the testamentary injunction of his aunt, Anne Cranmer, of Quendon Hall aforesaid
