Sans changer. The crest 1b derived from the family of Latham, of Latham, co. Lancaster, now represented by the Stanleys. in an old Visit, of co. Lancaster, in the College of Arms, it is stated that a child was found in an eagle's nest upon the estate, and adopted by one of the Lathams, and this, it is assumed, was the origin of the crest.

His lordship having contributed to the victory o( Bosworth, and placed the crown on the head of Henry VII. on the battle-field, was created by the new monarch, 1485, Earl of Derby, and was the next year made Constable of England for life
