Barons and Baronesses Willoughby de Eresby; descended from Sir John de Willoughby, Lord of the Manor of Willoughby, co. Lincoln, temp. William I.; his descendant, Sir William de Willoughby, was signed with the cross 54 Henry III.; he m. Alice, dau. and co-heir of John, Lord Bec, of Eresby, and his son, Sir Robert de Willoughby, was summoned to Parliament 1313; William, ninth Baron Willoughby de Eresby, left an only dau. and heir, Katherine, Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, m. first, Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, by whom she had no issue, and second, 1553, Richard Bertie, Esq., and d. 1580, leaving a son, Peregrine Bertie, who s. as Baron Willoughby de Eresby; his descendant and heiress, Lady Pricilla Barbara Elizabeth Bertie, eldest sister and co-heir of Robert, fourth Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven, became Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, by termination of the abeyance, 1780, m. Peter, first Lord Gwydyr, and was grandmother of Clementina Elizabeth, Dowager Lady Aveland, Baroness Willoughby de Eresby
