By royal licence, dated 16 June, 1838, Lionel Rothschild, eldest son and heir of Nathan Meyer Rothschild, was authorised, and the heirs male of the body of his said father {upon whom the dignity of a baron of the Austrian Empire shall descend in virtue of the limitations of the letters patent or diploma granted to the said Natu an Meyer Rothschild, dated at Vienna, 29 Sept. 1822}, being respectively natural born subjects, to accept the dignity of a baron of Austria, and to bear the arms annexed thereto.
