Canada; James Scott Howard, Esq., of Toronto, J.P. and Treasurer of the united counties of York and Peel, in Upper Canada, son of the late John Howard, by Mary, his wife, dau. of James Scott, of Bandon, descends from a Huguenot family, named Ouward, which fled from France at the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, and became established at Innishannon, co. Cork, where they acquired property, and founded a flourishing and extensive business in silk and cotton manufactures. in more propitious times, Nicholas Howard, the grandfather of the present representative, returned to France, and succeeded in recovering a portion of his ancestral property
