Hart and Mu.rrjv.ess of Hertford, extinct 1750; Sir Edward Seymour, eldest 6on of Sir Edward Seymour, first Duke of Somerset, was created, 15fi9, Burt of Hertford; his grandson, William, second Jiarl of Hertford, was created, 1640, MorowM of Hertford, and was restored by Act of Parliament, 1C60, as Duke of Somerset, whicli title had been conferred on his grandfather, 1547, with special remainder to the issue mate of liis second marriage, on fuilurc of which to the issue male of his first marriage. Aloeiinon, seventh Dr.ke of Somerset, seventh Karl of Hertford, and sixth Marquess of Hertford, d. leaving an only dau., Lady Elizabeth Skymui.h {1'erci}, m Sir Hugh Smithson, created Duke of KorlK-umbtrland 1766, when the earldom and marquessutc became extinct, and the Dukedom of Somerset devolved on the descendant of Sir Edward Seymour, the eldest son of the first Duke of Srmcrut by his first wife, viz., Sir Edward Seymocr, sixth hart, of Berry Pumcroy, co.
