Shirley, co. Derby, Staunton Harold, co. Leicester, and Chartley, co. Stafford; descended from Sewallis de Etinodon, living temp. Edward the Confessor, "whose name," says Dugdale, " argues him to hove been of the old English stock." At the Conquest the Lordship of Ettington was granted to Henby, .Ear! nf Ferran, in Normandy, one of the principal adventurers under William 1., and was held under him by this Sewallis, in whose posterity it continues to the present day. The senior line of the descendants oi Sbwalus, theSinnLEYS, of Staunton Harold, are now represented by Sewallis Edward Shirley, Earl Ferrers
