Mowbreck and Bawcliffe, co. Lancaster, originally of co. York. Gilbert Wbstbyb was Sheriff co. Lancaster 1283; his descendant, Thomas Westby, Esq., of Mowbreck, purchased temp. Charles I., Bawcliffe or White Hall from the Kirby family, and settled that estate upon his eldest son by his second marriage, Georob Westby, Esq., of Bawcliffe, whose younger son settled in Clonmel, and became the ancestor of the Westbys of Ireland
